Spend Baby Spend!!!
The economy is bleak, you might lose your job, and you are holding on to every penny. But that isn’t going to help anything. To most of us, the rise and fall of large sums of money effects us in a very abstract way. In the past couple of years, the only thing the vast majority of Americans watched was the price of oil, because that really effected us at the pump. Those days are over. Now we want the stock market to sore, because it effects the people who are paying our salaries. And was we hear about Americans losing their jobs every day, it makes to think that I need to hold on to every last cent just in case I lose my job. But that doesn’t help either. In fact, spending more would do more good.
To understand this, we need to think about cause and effect if you will. You might lose your job which causes you to tighten your purse strings. So maybe you don’t go out to eat as much, or you start giving home hair cuts. That is great for, but what about the waitress at your favorite restaurant. Now that you don’t go, and neither do 100 of your neighbors, they let go some of the staff, or worse, they closed. The hair salon you used to go to also had the same fate. Now the places they used to spend money at will also suffer, and so on.
This is why I say, don’t stop spending. Keep going out to eat, just don’t order the fillet, maybe get the burger instead. When we all stop spending, then no one makes money, not even you or me. In the end, everyone loses. And it’s nice to sit here and think that the government is going to solve all of our problems, but lets face it, they got us in this mess. I know what you’re thinking, its time for change in the White House. Yes, well change takes time, and even though I voted for him, it doesn’t mean that he can wave a magic wand and fix this mess. It still takes the hard work of everyone, including you and me.
When you spend your money, someone else makes, and then spend it somewhere else and so on. This causes the stock of companies to go, allows for business to higher more people, and allows for the economy to pull its self back up. And if we all get on this, I will be able to buy a house in a year. If you are like me who still has a job and is no immediate danger of losing it, don’t be afraid to spend, and save. Put some away, bring some to the bar, put some away, go buy a new video game, put some away, buy your sweet heart something nice for Valentine’s Day.
