Call Girls for Spitzer
Last night, as I was settling down to watch Jeopardy, ABC 7 out of New York had some breaking news. They announced New York Governor Elliot Spitzer was involved in a prostitution ring. My first reaction was "I hope this story ends soon so that we can watch Jeopardy." Well, the good news on that is they did start Jeopardy from the top, the bad news is of course that the New York Governor will most likely have to step down. However, as of this writing, he has not made any mention of resigning. The real question that this raises to me is how do people in the public eye really think that they can get away with this kind of behavior, especially when their career has been dedicated to cleaning up society.
The interesting part of the this story is how he was connected to the prostitution ring. He wasn’t caught in some kind of sting operation around the Emperor’s Club or anything like that, rather it had to do with his money. He had apparently been removing large amounts of money out of his bank account. This is what eventually lead to an investigation as to where the money was going which lead to the prostitutes.
Let us stop right here at step one. He was taking out large sums of money. Now I am no rocket scientist, but if you are married, and have a joint account, you better be able to explain the smallest withdrawl. I’m not even married yet, and I have to explain how I spent $40 on a video game, never mind $4,000 on a lady of the night. And my question to all of these rich people that do this kind of thing, how do you write this down on your expense report, or your taxes? Is this an entertainment expense?
The other main thing that keeps bothering me is why he needs a mistress anyway. I understand that sometimes men get bored, their wives are old, they aren’t attracted to their wives anymore, and so on. Now I am going to have two or three points here, so start counting. Call me old fashioned, but when you get married, you are committing yourself to that person, not to go waste money on some hooker. You want to waste money, buy a car, take a vacation, go the casino. Do something that is legal, and doesn’t violate your marriage. Second, this guy is a Governor! Does he think that no one is going to realize it’s him? Sure, he was clever and used another name at the hotel. It doesn’t matter what you call yourself, if you are the head of a state, a country or anyone famous, someone somewhere will know who you are, and then the jig is up. Even the woman that you hired might turn you in because the media will pay more for the story than you will for that one night. Finally, if it is about attraction, looks, and the like then I am really confused about this one. I mean, did you see his wife at the press conference? She may be an ‘older’ woman, but she is still mighty attractive. There are everyday Joes whose wives do not look that good at that age, yet they stick by their women. And here is the Governor, married to a very attractive lady, going out and messing everything up. He may not want to step down, but if he is convicted of participating in prostitution, they he will be removed from office by law.
The media is going to spend the next week or so picking and prodding at this story. Not me, I’m going to give you a moral to the story now. If you are in a relationship that you like, have a good career, or are in some sort of high level public office and you don’t want to see your life torn to shreds, stay away from the prostitutes! And that’s my two cents on that.
